The Art of Education University June 2021 – PRESENT

· Taught two sections of a Masters-level course in Managing the art classroom, with a specific focus on utilizing principles of diversity, inclusion, and equity to create a positive classroom environment.

· I am currently teaching Mission in Teaching (literature review course for Graduate Capstone) and the graduate Capstone course

· Taught Instructional Strategies, with a specific focus on collaborative learning, teacher modeling, differentiation for diverse learners, and student-centered instruction

· Provide feedback to students, facilitate discussions between students, and assess student learning

· Subject Matter Expert for the creation of a New Course: Classroom Management for Diverse Learners

· Subject Matter Expert for the rewriting the Capstone course

Art Teacher, tenured 2014

Ashland Independent Schools at Paul G. Blazer High School August 2009 - PRESENT

Formed an Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice Committee to serve the needs of students, faculty and staff at Paul G. Blazer High School. Designed the proposal for Site Based approval, formulated the policies with the Principal, recruited committee members.

● Integrated technology into curriculum with Virtual Reality Goggles, Chromebooks, 3d printers, various software and online programs, and online design platforms

● Created learning opportunities for student self-discovery, multicultural learning, and creative-problem solving

● Utilizes formative assessments and student growth models to encourage students in their development as learners

● Developed an aligned, rigorous curriculum for four studio art courses: Art One, Art Two, Drawing and Painting, Advanced art, and AP Art History. The curriculum focused on student growth through studio skills, an understanding of art history, critical thinking and student reflection on their own art and their peers. Students are encouraged to pursue their own interests and creativity in class.

Teach AP Art History (since 2013); average pass rate of 95%.

● Substitute for variety of subjects and grades K-12

● Helped elementary students in an after-school program with their homework and reading and math skills

Service

Art of Education University

  • Served on the Curriculum & Assessment Committee: oversight of the curriculum, including approval of new course proposals, modifications to existing courses and review of possible future programs. The committee is also responsible for proposing changes to degree program requirements and for new graduate degree and certificate programs to be approved by the faculty and Dean. (2021-2022)

KY Department of Education

Served on Arts Career Pathway Committee: helped formulate requirements for students to be considered career ready in visual art, aided in the development of grading procedures for student portfolios (2014-15)

● Served on Teacher Effectiveness Subcommittee as the Art Education Specialist: focused on developing ideas for Student Growth Goals (SGGs) to be shared with teacher throughout the state, initiated the idea of the use of teacher-made rubrics as effective measurement tool for student growth which was adopted and implemented throughout the state, my rubric specific to art education has been used as a model to train other art teachers. (2012-13)

Ashland Independent Schools District

Coordinating a student mediation team. The team will be comprised of faculty and students who will act as student mediators for situations of conflict that arise at Blazer High School.

Professional Development Instructor for Blazer High School. Designed 12 hours of PD for teachers in the summer of 2021 to address various issues of equity, inclusion, and diversity including: Deficit-thinking, Critical-consciousness, Dismantling the Myth of Poverty and a book study of Bettina Love’s We Want to Do More Than Survive: Abolitionist Teaching in the Pursuit of Educational Freedom

District Technology Trainer for 2020-21 school year. Designed trainings for virtual instruction methods, and software platform. Instructed and provided continual tech support for teachers during virtual instruction due to COVID-19.

● Member of Arts and Humanities Professional Learning Community: collaborated with other arts teachers how to include the arts as an aspect of Continual School Improvement Plan (CSIP), planning curriculum, Professional Development.

● Assistant Academic team coach (since 2012-2019, 2021) help students learn a variety of subject matters, coach during Quick Recall (i.e. Quizbowl) matches, helped organize and plan team activities.
